Elyjana Roach, from the Victoria University of Wellington School of Architecture, was highly commended for her project ‘THINK BIG, act small’.
Project description
The ambition of the large, medium and small scale interventions at the heart of this project is to reconnect the people of Porirua City with a de-industrialised water’s edge. The design proposes “blue-green streets” linking to a wetland park with new social spaces, public pools and housing – ecosystems that will ease the risk of flooding, improve water quality and catlyse economic growth and for the city. The narrative of the park is driven by the characteristics unique to each suburb of Porirua, and is envisaged as a specifically local space for the people of Porirua to enjoy.
