A 'Little' Alteration
Located on a north facing hill in Karori, this 1950’s bungalow had great views and sun, but was in much need of updating for contemporary living. The alterations were largely focused on positioning for sun, opening up the main living areas and kitchen, while also making best use of the existing spaces available. The addition of an ensuite, separate WC, and separate laundry has made this 4 bedroom house into a practical family home. Features such as new wall insulation (in addition to the existing floor and ceiling insulation), thermally broken double glazed doors and windows, and LED lighting, will make this an energy efficient house well into the future. Here is what the clients, Liz and Pete Little have to say about their experience working with an architect. “It is always with trepidation that you embark on a home renovation project, especially if it is your first, however, after trawling through many architectural firms and having had several one-on-one discussions with Rob Vorstermans we knew we had a team who would be in sync with us. The team was professional, up front and honest about what we could and could not do or afford. They worked tirelessly, listening to all of our ideas and discussing all manner of solutions to the various problems and obstacles we faced, ensuring our needs and wants were met. We wanted function over architectural design and had significant emphasis on detail (I’m sure our final plans were some of the most detailed house plans Anna had prepared – right down to the brand, style and location of spare toilet roll holders!). Anna showed her skill and was able to provide us with some architectural flare lifting the overall quality of finish whilst still maintaining the functional aspects we desired. We were thoroughly impressed with the service we received and the extent to which Anna was able to minimise the stress for us. The team at Vorstermans did a brilliant job and have given us a beautiful, comfortable, functional home that came in under budget!”
