Selected Project

Home of Compassion, New Dementia Unit

The development of a new stand-alone Dementia care unit alongside the existing aged care facility has provided an opportunity to put into practice the most recent advances in stage III dementia care. The 16 bed unit is intended to provide an environment that, while contained and secure, has as many familiar home elements as possible. Easy circulation routes, plenty of natural light and ventilation along with good access to contained outdoor spaces will help create a lively, pleasant and fresh environment for residents and visitors. It is also intended to incorporate the latest technology in nurse call systems to assist the staff in providing a safe and secure environment. Sustainable design has been a major consideration throughout the development of the project. Site planning, material selections, equipment and services have all been addressed so that they align with the applicable green rating standards. While challenging this has resulted in a building that will minimise its impact within its surrounding environment whilst also reducing running costs. Ultimately the completed facility will provide more comfortable living accommodation for its users.
