Halswell Quarry Preschool

A learning centre with a strong connection to nature, Halswell Quarry Preschool encourages children to explore and engage with one another throughout the interior and exterior learning environments. Centred around a large existing magnolia tree, the inner courtyard has been designed as the focal point for the surrounding learning spaces. The simple external form is broken into three key elements, each designed specifically to cater to the needs of the different age groups. As the children grow, they get to experience the larger spaces. Metal cladding being the predominant form, with texture and warmth added through the use of cedar, where the roof slices through. Internally, each learning environment is connected visually to the inner courtyard via interior glazing or directly. Whilst engaging with the inner courtyard is possible for all age groups, each learning environment also has access to their own external play zone.
