Selected Project
The Distict
Our private developer client returned inspired from the “Meat Packers District” in New York with a clear vision to create a new building in the blossoming heritage precinct of Petone that reflected upon the industrial past of this suburb. The property consists of two parts, one being a full urban block, and the other a small parcel across one of the secondary side streets. The District comprises the Jackson Street half of the main site, as well as the small second parcel. 45 apartments with ground floor retail and carparking are complemented by 5 cute townhouses that occupy the transitionary corner site. The successful delivery of this project is based around familiarity of the entire team. Solari have a long-standing relationship with client, and are joined by a consultant, main contractor, and even sub-contractor team that have successfully delivered a variety of apartment projects together around the Wellington region. The design concept is based on creating two buildings that appear to have been part of the original fabric of Petone that have been repurposed into residential use and have been joined by a contemporary architectural intervention. Such an approach was strongly welcomed by the Hutt City Council to comfortable sit alongside the precious heritage precinct of Jackson Street.
