Rotorua Hospital
Lakes District Health Board’s brief for the redevelopment of the Rotorua Hospital campus was to provide the community with a modern facility designed to meet their needs for the next 20 years. The project encompasses the refurbishment of an existing Clinical Services Building and a New Inpatient Building accommodating Emergency, Ambulatory Care Centre, Medical and Surgical Wards, Coronary and Intensive Care Units, Theatres and Day Stay, CSSD, Outpatients and a new main entrance. The three storey New Inpatient Building sits on a predominant site above Lake Rotorua and conveniently houses all specialist outpatient clinical services on the ground floor. The design theme, conceived to comply with Rotorua’s Urban Design Principles, is “Contemporary Tradition” and emphasises the transformation of traditional elements in contemporary approaches.
