Selected Project

Plateau Hut, Mt Cook

Perched atop of one of the few rock outcrops on the edges of the Grand Plateau, Plateau Hut provides a safe base for most of the ascents of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman. At an altitude of 2200 meters, the hut is the highest structure in New Zealand. With the extreme conditions that occur at these altitudes, the structure needed to be equally extreme which is evident in the sizes and amount of steel in the large cantilevers. The Hut was designed as a modular system so that it could be constructed off site and then broken into manageable sized panels and transported to site. Plateau hut was finished at the start of 2005
