Selected Project

Oamaru Police Station

The linkage of the new extensions to the existing main station, also forming the new entry, is via a glass link that forms the knuckle of the building; both old and new extend from it. The attachment to the existing main station is minimal and maintains its separate identity as an historically significant building. The brief included an agreement with the NZHPT that required the new building to “be designed and detailed in sympathy with the existing heritage buildings”. Our approach to this was not replication, but rather proportional connection. The new building picks up on the existing buildings symmetry and rationalises the approach to detail.
