ST CLAIR RESIDENCE DUNEDIN
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, perched on the edge of a cliff, this house in its original form turned its back on all the things that were special about its own location. The original plan didn't allow for any interaction with the sea, nor did it allow for any usable outdoor space to the north. The design zoned off the new plan into areas that interacted with their context. The south needed to have a connection to the sea, while the north needed a new connection with outdoor space. A large cantilevered tiled deck extends over the cliff to the south. Even from the elevated cliff top position, it feels like you can leap into the sea! Large sliding doors open with 'look-no-hands' non-support to corners.
