LAKESIDE ESTATES RESIDENCE QUEENSTOWN

This house has a strikingly unique character that is based on the owner’s experience of having lived in Japan for many years. The brief was to create a home that would include all the aspirations of modern day living, but also to include an influence of Japanese architectural aesthetic. The house includes a Japanese Ofuro bathroom, Tatami room and adjacent bamboo screened outdoor Japanese garden. The house is a bold mono-pitch form and comprises stone, solid plaster and Cedar in a layered affect to work with the surrounding dramatic landscape. The house includes a contemporary joinery fit-out to complement the Japanese aesthetic and provide a setting for the owner’s collection of Japanese and Korean mementos. The outcome is a house that the owners are very pleased with and it was a pleasure to be the Architects.
