Selected Project
Hamilton Junior High School
Hamilton Junior High School commissioned MOAA to refurbish their 1970’s stand-alone technology block. The existing building was tired and poorly laid-out. The refurbishment increased both natural day light and ventilation, along with defining a new learning environment. The interiors then reinforced the architecture and functional aspects in a more playful manner. All interior elements were removed to allow all services and the building envelope to be upgraded. Spaces were then reformed to encourage creative and flexible learning. Interior planning along with more transparency increased permeability between spaces. Colour was used to affirm way-finding, define spaces and stimulate the pupils. The colour palette increases the vibrancy of each space in relation to its function, i.e. corridor, active learning space, high focus space, art room, wood working room.
