Clare's Place
Clare’s brief requested additional amenity and to reconsider the use of her dwelling’s existing spaces to make a welcoming and practical home while avoiding ostentation. She also introduced us to Jack Gilbert’s poem ‘A Brief for the Defense’, where we are urged that ‘We must risk delight’. And so began a fulfilling collaboration to understand Clare’s personality and create a home of considered comfort and delight. Delight is experienced through the articulation of light via specific window and skylight positioning and detailing, multiple bespoke cabinetry elements and specific material selections. A second storey window seat allows for a perch to read, relax and interact with the street from a comfortable place.
