The Sewing Factory
Conversion of a 1940s unreinforced masonry building into a modern office environment. The building was seismically strengthened to meet current earthquake and fire stability requirements, while retaining the buildings original character. Inside, full height glazing is fitted between exposed wooden beams to divide the space into a welcoming, office environment. The ceiling trusses are exposed and modified to lift the bottom chords for extra height. The original timber floors are preserved, including keeping some of the original floor mounted power sockets from the days of being a sewing factory. This careful build and attention to detail has preserved the building and given in a new lease of life into the next century. The building is one now of the most desirable office locations in Pukekohe.
