Selected Project

The Bach

To the owners of this home, getting away from it all meant escaping to a living environment completely different from the one they enjoy daily in the city. Our solution was a home with a casual seaside feeling, which makes the most of a flat site overlooking a nature reserve and the surrounding hills, while blocking out the neighbours. Its boomerang shape, with the living area flanked by two wings, protects a large deck with an outdoor fireplace. The deck spreads across two levels: the top one for dining; and the lower one for relaxing around the fire. Inside, double-height glazing and a wall of bifold doors blur the division between indoors and out. They let the sun stream in so that the house is warm year round, while cedar shutters filter the light in the summer. Simple, natural materials help create the bachy feeling the clients were after, complemented by bright colours to accentuate the holiday atmosphere.
