Selected Project

Tauhoa Primary School

A small country school south of Wellsford of about 50 pupils. They qualified for limited funds to relocate and existing classroom to become a library and to reconstruct three new classrooms with new toilet blocks. Their brief requested some design enigmatic of their location near to the Kaipara Harbour. Our design solution was to make the classrooms economic but with a tall ceiling and to put the architecture into the verandahs. The verandah protected the classrooms from the northerly sun. Sun shade diagrams were generated to show how the sun would be able to warm the rooms in winter but protect the rooms as the sun became higher in the sky. Our design solution was a representation of seagulls on the Kaipara.
