Selected Project
Crawford Residence
The client had previously undertaken building over many years but had never used the services of an Architect, and possessed a degree of apprehension regarding the design. He had a modest budget for a holiday home for extended family use. The original design submitted to the Design Committee was rejected, because the house was too small and was not large to warrant acceptance on the superb beach front location. Through design consultation a loft storage space added with wing extensions incorporated. To give the building sufficient scale to be accepted by the design committee. The forms and materials are extremely simple and hover around the very old, large Pohutakawa Tree. The interior bedroom and bathroom arrangements had to be flexible to enable up to sixteen persons to stay at peak periods, whilst still maintaining a modest budget.
