Selected Project

Vomo Resort, Fiji

Vomo is a privately owned 87-hectare (225-acre) property at the top of the Mamanuca Islands group, 15 minutes north via helicopter or seaplane from Fiji’s main international airport. Mt Vomo rises on the eastern side of the island and provides spectacular 360-degree views to those who wish to conquer it. Manicured grounds and lush natural plantings cover Vomo – no wonder the island was historically a favoured retreat of Fijian Royal Chiefs. The Vomo Resort project involved the design and documentation of additions and refurbishment of all the existing villas to move the resort up a star in terms of its rating. Privacy from adjoining villas was enhanced through extensive planting, new canvas screens, curved insitu concrete walls and improved acoustic treatment of the existing construction. Finishes were selected to enhance the natural experience of the island with a palette of local stone, timber, basalt, and seagrass used throughout. The hillside villas were designed to create honeymoon suites with an addition of large viewing platforms, their own plunge pool and gazebo to enhance the stay and experience of panoramic views out over Vomo Island and the Mamanuca islands to the horizon. Contractor: Cape Interiors Project Manager: Rebbeck Dunn Watters
