Selected Project

Campbells Bay Toilet/Change Facilities

The brief was to replace the existing inadequate toilet block with a design based on the previous Pepper Dixon Architects designed facilities. Siting and construction were to be convenient for beach, reserve and playground users whilst not compromising local residents’ existing views. The building form has enclosing masonry walls contrasted with a light and open steel frame supporting a curved steel roof. The design provides a functional, airy, robust facility which maximises sun and ventilation. For tree root protection the building is constructed on a suspended concrete beam and floor slab supported on deep driven timber piles, providing a ventilated ground surface below. The Campbells Bay Toilet and Change Facilities are a successful and easily maintained community amenity utilising simple forms and appropriate materials.
