Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Library & Student Learning Centre

The commissioning of the design for the Library and Student Learning Centre for Bay of Plenty Polytechnic follows from the completion of the client's Directional Campus Plan for which the design team played an instrumental role. The building is the first of a number of new facilities within the Campus Plan and is presented as a catalyst" for future development. The two-storey structure accommodates the library, learning support centre and student caf;. One of the key design criteria was for the Learning Centre to act as a beacon and a gateway" to the whole site and for the design of the building and roof forms to reflect a theme unique to the Bay of Plenty. Smart" building technology has been incorporated with passive energy systems to optimise application of development capital and establish sustainable operational cost-in-use. Easy serviceability and maintenance costs are of prime importance for tertiary sector clients and were significant in the specification of materials, plant and equipment.
