Selected Project
Frank Kitts Park Design Competition
The intention was to establish a park which contributes to Wellington’s role as capital city, is ‘distinctly Wellington’, a place with national and international significance addressing the heritage and cultural values of the site. As we define and refine the meaning of New Zealand culture, we ask; what does it mean to be a New Zealander and inhabit ‘this place’? Our concept takes its cue from the high tide line on a beach, the gift line, which holds elements of surprise, elements to be discovered and enjoyed. Similar to the treasures found along the high tide mark our proposal for Frank Kitts Park binds together elements of discovery, unique to this particular place. The waterfront is the new urban ‘gift line’ and Frank Kitts Park one of it’s treasures. Within the Park layers of past and present stories. Chow:Hill collaborated with Dr Kongjian Yu of Turenscape on this project.
