Loft Offices
Loft Offices is a exercise in what to do when a young design company has a tight timeframe and limited budget to fit out new offices. An empty shell created the raw loft with steel trusses, a concrete floor and strip windows. The decision early was to both use and respect the space and it’s bones. The trusses over become the organizing elements. Walls are inserted and stop short of the structure. Cable trays under slung from the trusses supply the power , data and up lighting throughout, freeing up the possibilities of how the space may work. The cost constraints meant the design has focused on developing elements which float within the space and can be easily reconfigured as the company numbers and the aspirations grew. The old floors were polished up to give a gallery feel to the loft space. This has been contrasted with walnut veneered big work surfaces to add a bit of luxury within an otherwise low cost exercise. The big tables allow the acts of meeting and working to blend together.
