Commercial - Wholesale and Warehousing

Scott Electrical Building A modern refurbishment of a derelict warehouse, this building now functions as an electrical goods wholesaler. The brief was to create a new look for a relatively new company to the market in New Zealand. The building needed to stand out and be easily recognised. A new façade has been built of corrugated zincalume, double-glazing, black powder coated aluminium, and white plastered walls, giving the building an industrial chic look. The metal grating above provides an interesting and changing backdrop for signage, while disguising and squaring-off the existing gable end. Existing steel columns have been clad in rolled powder coated aluminium sheet to imitate electrical conduit. Bollards are designed to match. Carparking and landscaping were also part of the scheme. The entry has been relocated to welcome people into the centre of the building and a new reception counter has been designed, incorporating the company colours. An additional 90 square metres of warehouse space has been built at the rear of the site, from steel portal frames and concrete block to match the existing construction. There is a new bathroom area at ground floor level and also a new kitchen and lunch room on the mezzanine floor which can be used to entertain customers. The main objective was to breath life into a dying building and to create something a bit striking, with a contemporary and youthful feeling. The client is very pleased with the result and the new corporate identity will be adapted to other branches of the company in the future.
