Selected Project

Mangatahi

Nestled in the Hawke’s Bay countryside, this rural home has been designed to reflect traditional architectural aesthetics while at the same time including modern planning and amenities. The client brief called for a distributed house. This has been interepted as a collection of forms, each with their own individual personality and characteristics. Rooms have been placed strategically to take advatage of site attributes and outlook. The planning is reminiscent of a property that has grown and expanded over many generations and the resulting character give the house a real sense of belonging. Rather than slavish reproduction the architectural detailing of a homestead is entirely custom designed resulting in cohesive and well balanced proportions. Subtle ornamentation on skirtings, architraves and other features throughout the interior spaces capture the elegance of the traditional. These features work beautifully with the sharp contemporary detailing seen in the kitchen and bathrooms. Extensive decks and outdoor verandahs are a feature of this house and this includes a generous outdoor room with operable louvered roof, perfect for the Hawke’s Bay climate.
