A talented team, a tireless task and plenty of terrain to cover, we are grateful to our local judges and international judge for their time and expertise. Ahead of the nationwide jury tour, we are pleased to introduce you to the panel.
Caro Robertson, Convenor
“We have a thoughtful, talented rōpū who will travel Aotearoa to experience the projects put forward for this year’s National Awards,” says Caro, the co-director of Spacecraft Architects.
While typically based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Caro is downing the tools on a house build east of Whangārei to tour the shortlist in August and September.
As an architect, she is interested in projects that demonstrate a considered relationship to the whenua they inhabit and celebrate the resources they use.
Ari Stevens
An associate at Athfield Architects in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Ari joined the studio in 2009. He has a particular interest in the “texture of place” and a strong belief in the responsibility of architecture to reach beyond the site and brief to deliver broader outcomes for people and communities.
Julie Stout
The indomitable 2021 Gold Medalist brings her extensive knowledge of architecture and the local vernacular to this year’s judging panel. An educator and mentor to many, Julie is one of Aotearoa’s finest ambassadors of architecture.
Patrick Kennedy
Kennedy Nolan’s founding partner Patrick Kennedy joins the panel from Naarm Melbourne. He has served as a juror for the Australian Institute of Architects and on numerous design competitions and awards programmes, including here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
