Advocates and Champions

by Nick Bevin

In their pursuit of social justice and equity, Hugh Tennent and Ewan Brown have not only waged a self-funded war on carbon but advocated consistently for the profession of architecture, the construction industry and suppliers to follow suit.

Through their sustained commitment, strong leadership and shared vision, they demonstrate how architecture in Aotearoa New Zealand could achieve net-carbon zero by 2030.

By integrating design excellence, sustainability and te ao Māori in their architecture, Hugh and Ewan ensure the practice provides highly developed working examples of how architects in Aotearoa can realise a built environment that respects the land, reduces the impact on the climate and improves the wellbeing of people. Tennent Brown’s award-winning achievements require a high degree of tenacity and integrity in their design, construction documentation, specification and contract administration and serve as testament to the practice’s deep commitment to architecture.

Willingly sharing the knowledge they’ve accumulated and discoveries they’ve made, Hugh and Ewan push the architectural profession and construction industry forward.

Nick Bevin, DFNZIA, Chair of Futuna Chapel Trust, is an architect (retired) based in Pito-one, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.
