2024 Warren Trust Awards for Architectural Writing
Conditions of entry
• Entry is free
• One entry per person
• Entries will not have been published elsewhere
• The submission must be wholly the work of the person submitting it
• Writers must be Aotearoa New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
• Writers retain copyright of their essays and grant Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects licence to publish essays in its publications (print and online) and in third-party media outlets
• Submit your entry with a title, your name and contact details (including address), and a sentence or two about yourself
• If you are entering in the Rangatahi or Tamariki categories, please include your age and the name of your school
• Email your essay as a Word document or PDF attachment
• All winning and highly commended recipients agree to any media interviews to promote their work and the Writing Awards
• No correspondence with the competition judges will be entered into. The judges’ decision as to winners and commendations is final

• High-quality writing
• Reader engagement
• Clarity of story telling
• Respect to word count
Judging
All entries are judged blind – entries are provided to the judges without the author’s name or contact details. No correspondence with the competition judges will be entered into by the entrants. The judges’ decisions regarding winners and commendations are final.
Publication and publicity Entrants must not release their submitted work for publication to any third parties until after the results have been officially announced and permission has been granted from Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects.
Winning articles will be published on nzia.co.nz, in a booklet with other winners, and may be published in association with external media outlets.
Entries must be emailed to writingawards@nzia.co.nz by the submission deadline of midnight, Friday 26 July 2024.

About the awards
The Warren Trust Awards for Architectural Writing is a joint venture between The Warren Trust and Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects. The Warren Trust is a charitable organisation established in honour of celebrated architect Sir Miles Warren, which promotes architectural education to the profession and public.
