Hearts and Minds takes us on a provocative dystopian journey, inviting exploration of our own responses to this abstract, speculative project. Compelling imagery illustrates the haunting nature of our potential future, encouraging us to investigate our survival in a rapidly changing natural world.
The past, present and future all inform a compassionate built response, with three typologies bringing hope in the face of demise. The earlier traumas of the land have been considered and the primitive materials used respect the circular nature of these resources.
Beautiful graphics demonstrate how we could live when the deluge of water arrives, eroding the edges of this island nation where we will eventually lose much of our ‘plot’.
Project description
Science points to a future that simultaneously expects too much and too little water. Hearts and Minds reframes water as a metaphor for understanding climate change and sea-level rise. In the Waitakere Ranges, three typologies reimagine how life might dramatically change in 500 years.
A decentralised, scalable, community-focused water management system is proposed as a means of climate resilience. This speculative design project blurs the line between real and unreal possibilities.
