West Coast Beach House by XSite Architects
Citation
This is a house or description of one that perhaps appears familiar at first – a concrete block and glass pavilion, set behind or in amongst a group of pohutukawa trees overlooking the magnificent West Coast. The experience is however both surprising and inspiring for the way it deals with this abundance of fortune. Two key views or reference points structure the plan creating both beautifully framed views out as well as across and between the spaces. The interior landscape is in turn arranged around a covered courtyard – this in between realm, not quite inside or out, is a critical exploration in our world – this house adds a fine exemplar to our heritage.
