Peregrine Winery by Architecture Workshop
Citation
The Central Otago landscape can overwhelm efforts to build into it in a meaningful way – the scale of the latter tends so be no match for the former. Peregrine Winery achieves a fine balance between the natural and the fabricated by building both ‘above’ and ‘in’ this landscape. The visible gesture of an organising roof is light and enigmatic – neither interior nor exterior, big or small. The programme in contrast is built onto the land, carefully aligned to contour and ground condition and tuned to its purpose. The architecture of Peregrine is central to the purpose of Peregrine – the experience of fine New Zealand wine.
