2010 New Zealand Architecture Awards Winner
Wiroa Station Wine Cellar
This minimalist cave is embedded in a hill, a point of subterranean retreat creating a framed picture of the view. It combines wine storage with an entertainment function. A carefully placed skylight shaft placed at the rear of the space modulates the light; the raw, limited material palette exudes elegance and restraint. It is clear, simple idea executed beautifully.
