Western Springs College Ngā Puna O Waiōrea Redevelopment
If one can teach under an apple tree then it is not so much the architectural environment that matters in terms of learning outcomes, but what students can do within those physical environments that makes the difference. The Western Springs College Ngā Puna o Waiōrea campus arranges its learning spaces openly around a multi-storey atrium activated by projecting meeting rooms, criss-crossing stairs and, most crucially, teaching teams that are configured in whatever way is needed to meet the ever-changing requirements of the school’s students. The architecture thus responds impressively to the school’s pedagogical approach and to an extensive process of community engagement.
