Longbush Ecosanctuary Welcome Shelter
Feeling as though it has sprung up organically through time, the shelter is in fact the product of generous donations of labour (88 volunteers) and materials (88 suppliers), made to promote the stewardship of our natural environment. In the tradition of the picturesque, an elegant canopy floats over three rough-hewn boxes carefully positioned to frame views. There is a certain frisson in the contrast of the techniques and tastes of leisured English travellers of the 18th century and an environmental restoration programme for the untamed New Zealand bush that helps elevate this small collection of structures into something quite special and timeless.
