2009 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner
Rutherford House
Boxes form the basis of this intriguing modern holiday house. Simple forms are used to solve both the technical problems of building on a flood plain and the needs of an extended family for living and entertaining. Bold forms and stark lines create an overall effect which is solid without being monumental. Glass curtain walls create opportunities to bring the outdoors in and to incorporate internal building elements into the geometry of the structure.
