2019 Southern Architecture Awards Winner
77 West Meadows
Two serene courtyards – one a wet, rockpool-like landscape; the other dry – are stunning successes in the composition of this Central Otago home on a poetic, lakeside site. The house wraps around the courtyards, protecting them from the elements, and carefully concealing or revealing the majestic landscapes beyond. The pavilion forms are articulated clearly and crisply, the material palette is composed of colours and shades that work harmoniously with the environment, and the textured ‘floating’ ceiling creates a seemingly contiguous volume, with alluring visual connections to sky, ridgeline and lake.
