2019 Southern Architecture Awards Winner
Jetty Street Development
This sensitive and cleverly crafted rejuvenation of a once dilapidated corner building is clear evidence of the deep affection the client, architect and artisans must have for this heritage structure. The commitment to character is revealed in what has been left in place – the patina of plaster and cracked varnish, exposed brick, remnants of Victorian signage and raw steelwork – and great care has been taken to invisibly integrate new structural solutions, or celebrate them in a manner respectful of heritage. Particularly successful moments are the steel arch that cuts a window and entrance into the facade, and a courtyard, secreted away, that brings light right into the heart of the building.
