Ring Terrace Renovations
“We want our villa back,” said the clients, but what Salmond Reed gave them is far more than that. The original character home had been undermined by many renovations over the years, most recently in the 1980s when it was converted to a heavy, showy piece of contemporary suburban style. Salmond Reed went to the records to discover and reinstate such splendid features as the big front bay windows, while also opening the house up to sun and views of the harbour and Rangitoto. The result is a central front-to-back living floor, large, informal, high ceilinged and extremely comfortable, with kitchen in the middle and an exquisitely appointed rear courtyard. The bedrooms are all a delight, especially the utterly charming one sited up a new set of stairs in the loft, and there are also private workspaces and other little hideaways throughout the house. Little stylistic flourishes abound, and everything is impeccably finished, contributing to the sense of a wonderfully functional, smart and very welcoming family home.
