2019 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner
Pōhutukawa House
This small, cleverly crafted house incorporates materials salvaged from the previous dwelling on site. By capturing the essence of what went before, the architect has made a successful negotiation between past and present for the homeowner, who lived in the original dwelling for 40 years. Nestled within its site and surroundings, the home’s colours and textures reflect the seasonal changes of a landmark pōhutukawa adjacent to site, and perfectly frames views of Tauranga Harbour to accentuate the relationship between land and sea.
