2019 Canterbury Architecture Awards Winner
Christchurch Outpatients Building
The Christchurch Outpatients building on Riccarton Ave is a resolutely cheerful landmark at the periphery of the health precinct, bordering the newly opened Ōtākaro City Promenade and adjacent to the main hospital. On a complex triangular site, the architects have deftly woven a comprehensive architectural-health concept through a developer-type building. The result, almost surprisingly, given the challenges provided by floorplates, budget and timeframe, is a clear and strong form, with a bold central tower rising above simple glazed wings. The jury can bear testament to overwhelmingly positive user responses to the building – it is a great outcome for a significant city asset.
