Island House
The first impressive element of this Waiheke holiday home sitting in a row of houses in a very secluded bay far to the north, is that although it’s twice as big as its neighbours, it doesn’t seem that way. That’s been achieved by breaking the form in three, with a simple pitched roof form at each side and a glassed pavilion in between. Family living is in the large, low-slung pavilion, with decks fore and aft. The family sleeps in one wing, while the other has bunkrooms and much more, and is opened when required for guests. Wide cedar weatherboards are painted white, the forms are undecorated, and everything speaks of spacious, stylish comfort. Below, nestled above the beach, there’s a large boatshed with helipad on the roof. If you’re wondering where they’re living the really good life on Waiheke, Bureaux has done a truly splendid job of providing the answer.
