2019 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner
Te Aka Mauri Children’s Health and Library Hub
This inspired collaboration between the Lakes District Health Board and Rotorua Lakes Council saw Rotorua Library redeveloped as a knowledge hub and children’s health centre. It is a daring move away from hospital-based health practices to holistic health and wellbeing approaches. The new buildings, carefully composed and with culturally appropriate references, provide a single, centrally accessible centre for children and their whanau. This project shows the ability for architecture, suitably expressed, to provide a bold and solid community foundation.
