2019 Canterbury Architecture Awards Winner
Waterfront House
The positioning of Waterfront House at the nexus of the port axis instigates a subtle plan for stronger connections between port management and operations staff. The building blends offices with staff common areas with a generosity akin to civic space. The waterfront site is enviable – and skilfully embraced, with planned informal edges intersecting with a vertical ‘mixing device’ to promote staff connections. Robust and pragmatic cladding materials directly connect with the working port context. The ‘industrial-grate’ sun shading is a particular success that blurs the building’s edges against the backdrop of the working port.
