2019 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner
Kuiwai House
Kuiwai House, a family home within a new suburban subdivision in Taupō, successfully delivers relaxed and well-considered living spaces for the whole family to enjoy. The house responds to its fenced suburban context with an exterior screen of macrocarpa palings, which model the form within. The arrangement of internal and external spaces brings warmth to the experiences established by the circulation areas, and the linear arrangement of internal rooms allows plentiful opportunities to connect with the sun, outlook and green spaces beyond. The finishing materials have been deliberately kept simple to quietly complement the business of dwelling.
