Dunsandel Community Centre
From the highway, Dunsandel Community Hall sits resolutely on its site; white and gabled, flanked by sports fields. The gestural flick of the roof overhang catches the eye and signals that a new vernacular is at play. A rural community hall serves many functions and, here, every opportunity has been taken to provide for all possibilities. The sheltering roof is an informal post-game gathering point, and the foyer is generously sized, with handcrafted timber benches that are a testament to the community’s pride in the building. The zig-zag of the hall’s ceiling adds drama and large-glazed openings on either side of the hall connect the space to the emerald sports fields beyond. Within the restrained palette of white brick, natural timber and black joinery the detailing and texture shine.
