2018 Canterbury Architecture Awards Winner
Christchurch Justice and Emergency Services Precinct
Walking around the inside of this building is an overwhelming and even intimidating experience that establishes very swiftly the reason for the building’s existence. There are the appropriate and obligatory gestures to the Crown and the law, but more importantly the building expresses a strong acknowledgement of the indigenous people of this country. Opulence and a high level of material specification are evident on every corner. The interior is rich, complex and highly crafted – just like the law.
