2018 Auckland Architecture Awards Winner
Habitat Markers
This beautiful and respectful project successfully engages with the natural environment of Te Ara Manawa through the creation of a series of inhabited markers, mata, which ‘encourage the eye to see’. The tōtara carvings are based on whakarere (traditional carving motifs found in nature) and are deliciously tactile; they are like fingerprints. The use of colours associated with the different elements and fauna, such as clouds, sky and eels, is exemplary.
