2018 Canterbury Architecture Awards Winner
The Crossing
The Crossing is a self-contained,55-tenancy development on a one hectare inner city block. Bounded on its southern edge by a large carpark building with pedestrian entry at first floor, foot traffic through the laneways is optimised; office floors are located either side, with hospitality in the middle, activated retail edges to laneways and street, and a retained first floor connection across the street to Ballantynes. The laneways are light-filled spaces of a sensitive scale, varying in width, and meeting at the semi-public central courtyard with its focus building. The grain is respectful of that of pre-quake Christchurch, and special mention must be made of the careful restoration of a heritage building and façade.
