2018 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards Winner
Turama
This unique gem – a culturally significant private residence hidden in suburbia – is a significant contemporary home with a design informed by Maketu and Taihiti ley lines. The roof form, draped over the structure like a korowai (cloak), is framed with an iwi-inspired pattern in perforated steel. Inside, a fireplace positioned at intersecting geometries provides a meeting point for kōrero, while a play between public and private scales can be experienced in the large and welcoming double-height entranceway.
