2016 New Zealand Architecture Awards Winner

Annandale Farm

This award recognises three exquisite projects on a farm property at Banks Peninsula: Olive Grove, a poolside pavilion sheltered by a dramatic cantilevered roof; Scrubby Bay, a capacious holiday house in the centre of the natural amphitheatre of a small bay with a wild surf beach; and Seascape, a cottage set in a rocky escarpment in a small cove. All three buildings are adroitly sited and beautifully executed. The proportions are appropriate; the materials are well chosen; the detailing is painstaking; and the relationship to context has been resolved to dramatic effect. A rare architectural opportunity has been eagerly seized and confidently realised. This project is the recipient of the Sir Miles Warren Award for Commercial Architecture.
