2016 New Zealand Architecture Awards Winner
Christchurch Bus Interchange/Whakawhitinga Pahi
The Bus Interchange is the first of the key Christchurch anchor projects to be completed and it sets an excellent precedent in its provision of a high quality public facility. The circulation of the buses is very well handled, as are passenger waiting areas. The building is well-scaled and well laid-out, pleasant to occupy and easy to use – it is spacious, light-filled, comfortable and secure. It also has a sculptural form that serves to declare its presence and celebrate its purpose. It’s great to see an important mode of public transport being given such highly considered treatment.
