2016 New Zealand Architecture Awards Winner
Te Pātaka Kōrero o Te Hau Kapua - Devonport Library
This welcoming and comfortable library is evidently popular with a wide range of locals and has quickly become a valued community asset. The building offers a material richness and a variety of generous and engaging spaces; the children’s area and upstairs ‘living room’, for example, are obviously big hits with very young and more senior library users. The library’s combination of relaxed ambience and busy occupation lend it an admirable vitality. People seem to be genuinely pleased to be in the new building, and proud of its presence in their heritage suburb.
